Hexamine, or hexamethylenetetramine (HMTA), is used in a stabilized grade for a wide range of applications due to its stability and reactivity. It is a key component in the production of phenolic resins, which are used in brake linings and clutch facings. It is also used as a curing agent, a corrosion inhibitor for steel, a preservative in some personal care products and historically as a food preservative, and is a raw material in the production of explosives and solid fuels.

Industrial applications
- Resin production: It is a primary hardening component in the production of phenolic resins for molding compounds, adhesives, and coatings.
- Automotive: Used in the manufacturing of brake and clutch linings.
- Rubber industry: One of the major uses of Hexamine is in the manufacture of dinitrosopentamethylene-tetramine, a blowing agent for rubber. Acts as a rubber blocking preventative, an accelerator, and a curing agent.
- Explosives and fireworks: A base component in the production of explosives like RDX and HMX, and is used in pyrotechnics.
- Foundry: Used in foundry mold castings as part of binder resins.
- Catalyst: It is used as a catalyst in the manufacture of Bakelite phenol formaldehyde molding powders.
